16 year old switching from Rotterdam to Old Trafford
Tanith Chong has admitted the chance to play for Manchester United’s Under-21’s persuaded him to move to Old Trafford.
Winger Chong, 16, is one of several young stars being brought in to to boost United’s academy but the Netherlands youth international is aiming to make the step up to the U21s within a year.
“I start in Manchester in the A1 [academy] and may sometimes take part in Manchester United Under-21s,” told FR12.nl .
“I’ve been there a few times and I am definitely impressed by the club. United have good accommodation for youth players and it is up to me to make that step. My parents will go to England and it’s good to have their support there.”
hong was keen to remain at Feyenoord but was impressed by United’s enthusiasm to sign him.
“We were talking about a contract. I would have liked to stay longer at Feyenoord because it’s my club,” he added.
“The discussions were very vague and I had expected more of it. Only after that conversation, I went to talk to Manchester United and I chose this.
“Many people call it I do it for the money, but I’m not a money grab. I choose the sporting adventure and for me it is now time to look forward.”
