Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has been ruled out for at least 6 months with a ruptured achilles tendon.
The Belgian striker is now set to miss the rest of the season and will also miss the World Cup in Brazil this summer following an injury during training, in which he ruptured his achilles tendon.
Villa manager Paul Lambert had this to say: “It’s a terrible blow for both Christian and the club. But he’ll work hard because that’s what he does and he’ll come back for us stronger than ever next season.”
Benteke joined Villa from Genk in the summer of 2012 in £7 million deal. He enjoyed a successful debut season at Villa Park, during which he scored 23 goals in all competitions.
His Belgian captain, Vincent Kompany, has offered the striker his support via Twitter and he had this to say:
“Wishing you all the strength you need Christian Benteke and I hope you will recover quickly! We’re all with you together!”
