City join race with United for Jean-Michael Seri

Seri is being monitored ahead of summer transfer window

Manchester United are in the market for a new midfielder to replace Michael Carrick who is set to retire at the end of the season .Fellaini also set to leave the club on a free transfer as his contract expires in the summer. Jose Mourinho wants two midfielder to bolster his squad with Seri on top of his list.

Mourinho has drawn up an extensive dossier of other midfield targets and has received scouting reports on a host possible candidates, including Arturo Vidal, Marco Verratti, Jorginho and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. But has identified Nice’s midfielder Seri as ideal replacement for Carrick.

But as per reports Manchester City are also interested in Seri. Manchester City and Manchester United have both registered their interest in signing Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, reports the Manchester Evening News. Guardiola wants a long term successor to Fernandinho as he knows Manchester City rely on him too much and with Yaya Toure to leave the club, he wants top class player in that area.

Both the clubs have made the signing of a holding midfielder a priority. An attack-minded ball-winner, with outstanding technical ability, he fits the profile of what both Mourinho and Guardiola are looking for. Both clubs were interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred before but now they have shifted their attention to Seri and will go head to head to sign him in the summer.

The Ivory Coast International was also a target for Spanish giants Barcelona last year but any deal didn’t went through.

Seri joined Nice from Pacos de Ferreira for a transfer fee of  €1 million in 2015.
