The friendly between Manchester City and HNK Rijenka was called off following an incident involving French midfielder Seko Fofana, who was sent off for an off-ball clash.

City spoke about the incident saying: “A decision was taken by the management staff to withdraw from the field and cancel the game.”

The City U21 team is coached by former Premier League star Patrick Vieira and he entered the field before taking off his team.

A statement from the Croatian club read: “Manchester City coach Patrick Vieira entered the field, something was discussed with the referee, and then to the amazement of a well-filled stadium he took his team off the pitch.

“What are the reasons? They are known only to him.”

City added that their club representatives are having discussions with the officials, the match organisers and the Croatian Football Association to investigate the issue further.

20 year old Fofana joined City from Ligue 1 side Lorient last year but is still yet to make his first team debut.
