Claudio Ranieri has revealed the message that he received from Jose Mourinho on becoming Fulham manager.

The former Premier League winner took over the reins at the west London club, replacing Slavisa Jokanovic.

Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri has said that Manchester United tactician Jose Mourinho was the first to congratulate him on becoming the Fulham manager. The former Leicester City manager, who won the Premier League with the Foxes during the 2015/16 season, was brought in to replace Slavisa Jokanovic as the Lilywhites managed to win only one of their first 12 matches of the season and went down to the bottom of the table.

Speaking about the generous message that Mourinho had sent him, Ranieri said, “He told me, ‘Welcome back, all the best’. We speak about everything. It was a text message. Sometimes we speak. He’s a fantastic man.” He added, “I know him for a long time, when he came to Chelsea and in Italy, and he was very polite with me. He’s a great man, coach, manager and also the football is important.”

Mourinho’s side Manchester United are also facing problems in the Premier League this season and are currently stranded at the 8th position in the Premier League table. Speaking about the Red Devils and their manager Mourinho, Ranieri said, “Manchester [United] are one of the best teams in the Premier League and also in the Champions League,” he added, “It’s a fantastic team and stadium and we want to make a point. We know it’s hard, but nothing is impossible. Manchester are getting better, for us it will be difficult. We must make a perfect performance.
