Tom Cleverley has called on his teammates to “stand up and be counted for” in the wake of their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Sunday. The result left Manchester United lingering outside the top 4 in 7th postion, some 14 points off the top of the table.

Eto'o completes his hat-trick vs. Manchester United

Tomorrow, Manchester United play Sunderland in the 2nd leg of the semi final of the Capital One Cup at Old Trafford, in which they currently trail 2-1 on aggregate. Nothing less than a win will do for the Red Devils and it is arguably the biggest match of David Moyes’ short time as boss.

One player who understands the importance of tomorrow’s clash with Sunderland is Tom Cleverley. Although Manchester United are without, arguably, their most influential players in the form of Nemanja Vidic, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney, Cleverley is confident that the players who will play a part in the match will be able to get a result which sees Manchester United reach the final, in which it will almostly certainly see Manchester City, and so if Manchester United were to reach the final it would set up a mouthwatering final.

“We can’t let it get our heads down,” Cleverley told Sky Sports News. ” You have to feel for the new manager. He has had no luck at all. But we are not going to feel sorry for ourselves. We have to stand up and be counted. That starts with the Capital One Cup.”
