Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge has stated that he is mroe worried about performing for his club rather than performing for his country.

Sturridge was forced to sit out of England’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine with a thigh injury. Sturridge has said that challenging for trophies with Liverpool is his main priority, he added that â€śit’s not about playing for England.”

The forward said, “I’m more worried about Liverpool and more worried about putting in good performances for us, us winning games and challenging for trophies.”

“That’s my main ambition – it’s not about playing for England.”

“That comes with doing the things you do for your club and if I don’t play well here, I won’t get the opportunity to do it there (at the World Cup).”

Brendan Rodgers, Sturridge’s Liverpool manager, has backed Sturridge to continue his fine form which has seen him score an impressive three times in as many league games, he also believes that the striker can become one of the best players in the country.

Sturridge added on Rodgers’ comments, “It was good to hear. It’s always good to hear positive things from your manager, especially.”

“I’m working as hard as I possibly can and I want to improve as much as possible. I’m not resting on my laurels or thinking I’m complete because I know I’m not.”
