Injury-prone midfielder has been released

Arsenal have officially announced that injury-prone midfielder Abou Diaby has been released from the club.

The Frenchman has been riddled with injuries throughout his time in North London, with his first coming back in the beginning of his time at the club.

Diaby’s Injuries

Diaby suffered a broken leg after a horrendous tackle during a game against Sunderland, and since then, he has failed to keep himself fit on a regular basis.

Over 40 separate injuries in the 10-years at the club, Diaby has been told by Arsene Wenger that he won’t be extending his contract and he will be released this summer.

Wenger told the midfielder earlier this year that he has until July to prove his fitness, but seemingly, he has failed to do so and the Frenchman will now have to make a decision regarding his own future.

Since arriving at Arsenal back in 2005, Diaby only managed to make 180 first-team appearances, scoring 19 goals.

As well as Diaby, some youth players at the club have also been released.

Jack Jebb, Austin Lipman, Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill and Josh Vickers have all left the club.

Club Statement

Arsenal released this brief statement regarding the five players exiting the club: “Arsenal would like to take this opportunity to thank Abou, Jack, Austin, Brandon and Josh for their contribution to the club and to wish them well for the future.”
