Aston Villa striker signs 4 year deal at Pride Park

Aston Villa striker Andreas Weimann has today completed a move to Championship side Derby, signing a 4 year deal at Pride Park.

Weimann has fallen out of favour at the club since the takeover of new manager Tim Sherwood, and has failed to complete a full 90 minutes under the former Tottenham boss.

His last appearance for the club came in early April in the 1-0 over Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Temptation to improve

Weimann has admitted that the chance to play under former Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement was a factor in his decision to move away from Villa Park, and attracted him to the growing project at Derby in particular.

“I’m excited to be here and I’m looking forward to the new challenge,” he said.

“Derby has plans to be successful and get promoted and that’s what attracted me here; I want to be part of that.

“The opportunity to play first-team football and drive the team to promotion is something that I want to do.

“I know how difficult the Championship is – I’ve played in the league on loan at Watford a few years ago – and it was a tough league back then.

“With the set-up here and the players we have – and those that we are looking to sign – I feel that we have a good chance to get promoted.”

He added: “I’ve had chats with the Head Coach and people around the club and it seems it’s an exciting time for Derby County.”
