Right-back to end 8 year spell with the club

It’s been confirmed this afternoon that Dani Alves will leave Barcelona this summer- ending an 8 year stay at the Nou Camp.

The 33-year-old only signed a new two-year deal last summer and was rewarded by winning the La Liga and Copa del Rey this season.

However, rumours recently filtered out that Alves had exercised an option to leave the club this summer, one year into his two-year contract.

And it appears that his move – which is expected to be to Turin to join Serie A champions Juventus – is going ahead, with sporting director Robert Fernandez insisting the club harbour no ill feelings towards the Brazil international.

Alves has gone down in Barcelona’s history books as one of the most successful and talented footballers to have ever played for the club during his eight-year spell. He was often linked with moves away to English clubs, such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, but has been one of Barca’s ever-present figures since his arrival from Sevilla in 2008.

Alves has since gone on to win the Champions League, Copa del Rey, La Liga, Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup, highlighting the sort of impact he had during his spell at the Camp Nou.
