Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has been relieved of his duties at the Stadium of Light after a poor run of results.

The Uruguayan has been under increasing pressure this season, as his side have been beaten 8-0 at home to Southampton and more recently 4-0 at home to Aston Villa.

The Black Cats were also knocked out of the FA Cup at League One outfit Bradford City and are currently sat one point above the Premier League relegation zone.

Sunderland fans voiced their disappointment at this season’s performance. At half time of the Villa match, several fans shouted their views towards Poyet and his coaching staff in the dugout.

67-year old Dutch boss Dick Advocaat has emerged as the front-runner for the job. He guided Zenit St. Petersburg to UEFA Cup glory back in 2008 against another one of his former clubs Rangers.
