Blues boss Antonio Conte is intent on keeping ahold of his key asset

Chelsea are hoping to end the advances of Atletico Madrid by offering star striker Diego Costa a bumper new and improved deal to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

It’s no secret that the Brazil-born Spain international is wanted by his former club, however, Antonio Conte could stand a good chance of keeping ahold of the 28-year-old, with Atleti boss Diego Simeone set to step down at the end of the campaign.

Costa has been in hot form so far this season, scoring nine goals in 13 appearances in all competitions, which has helped, in part, to move the Blues to within a point of the top of the table, behind Liverpool.

The striker didn’t feature in Spain’s recent 4-0 win over Macedonia, after suffering with a thigh injury which has subsequently seen the Chelsea star return to their Cobham training base.

And Costa will not feature against England on Tuesday, having been dismissed from the Spain squad on the grounds of his injury.
