Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho has admitted that he is not having the best of times at Barcelona. The Brazilian’s transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona on a transfer fee of €120 million last January was the third most expensive transfer in football history. Coutinho has so far made 76 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring 21 goals and providing 11 assists. He had a very good start at Barcelona, netting 10 goals and providing 6 assists in 22 appearances.

This season however, Coutinho has been far from convincing for Barca. The 27-year old has garnered only 11 goals and 5 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions. Coutinho has received immense criticism for his recent performances with the club and the Brazilian feels that he has had a poor 18/19 season.

Coutinho said, “I have not had a good season. My performances have been a lot worse than I expected they would. The only way to improve and gain confidence is through hard work, and I have been working hard.”

With Neymar out of the Copa America, Coutinho will hope to be Brazil’s main man and guide them to Copa America glory next month. The 27-year old scored and assisted in Brazil’s pre-tournament friendly against Honduras and will hope to produce stronger performances at the Copa America. Hosts Brazil begin their tournament against Bolivia at Sao Paulo tomorrow.
