Cristiano Ronaldo Quarantined In Portugal After Coming In Contact With Infected Teammate

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently under quarantine back home in Madeira after his teammate, Daniel Rugani tested positive for Coronavirus.

Italian football has been severely affected with all games being suspended under 3 April.

Ronaldo was pictured in a huddle together with Rugani and the rest of his Juve teammates after a 2-0 win over Inter Milan. Players have been told to self-isolate themselves. The 5-time Balon d’Or winner flew back to his hometown where his mother also suffered a stroke.

Many hope that the spread has been contained for now as Rugani was kept on as an unused substitute. However, further checks are to be done. As of now, 12 games still need to be played along with 4 postponed fixtures and the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

The issue is to be further discussed on March 23. If the Serie A season is to resume, clubs will be asked to take advantage of all dates before May 31. The last time Serie A finished without a winner was in 2004/05 when Juventus was stripped off their title following a match-fixing scandal.

In 1964, the title-winner was decided through a playoff when Bologna beat Inter Milan to claim the trophy. Similar situations could be repeated, if the Coronavirus threat continues in the coming months.
