Cristiano Ronaldo was showered by praise from fans and critics alike after his hat-trick on Tuesday night helped Juventus to progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
The odds were against the Serie A giant when they lost 2-0 against Atletico Madrid in the opening leg of the Round of 16 draw. But the 5-time Balon d’Or winner did his absolute best to pull his team up back into the prestigious competition.
He told the Bianconeri’s official website, “It was always going to be special – and it was, not only for the goals, but for the team.”
“This is the mentality of champions, this is the journey to follow. We enjoyed a magical night. Atletico were a difficult team, but we were strong too. We will see what will happen.”
Ronaldo’s fiance, Georgina Rodriguez was seen getting emotional during the match after the Portuguese sealed the tie with the winning penalty.
She posted on social media, “This 3-0 nobody steals it. You deserve it, not for the 3 goals tonight.”
“You deserve it for your dedication, for what you get in the club where you are. You are a trailer for your teammates, coach and everyone we admire and support every day. Karma exists. God knows, God gives it to you, because the world of soccer is yours. WE LOVE YOU. Cristianito, Mateo, Eva, Alana, Georgina.”
Ronaldo celebrated after the historic win with a quiet dinner at a local restaurant, Catullo. He was met with a standing ovation from the rest of the dinners.
