Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic has confirmed that Ivan Rakitic will miss their must win Nations League clash against England on Sunday. Croatia registered their first Nations League win by beating Spain 3-2. The Croats are tied with England with 4 points, two behind Spain.
Croatia’s match against England on Sunday is a complete make or break situation. If Croatia win, they are through to the Nations League Finals. However, if they do anything but win, they will face relegation to League B of the 2020-21 Nations League.
Dalic said that Rakitic has sustained a serious injury and will return to Barcelona. He said, “He will go to Barcelona, it’s a serious injury. You know that I usually take no risk. If there is a doubt that the injury could be serious, then we let him rest. We want healthy players and Ivan in this moment is not 100 per cent ready. Unfortunately, we are going to play without him.”
Dalic said that Croatia won’t complain about his absence. The 52-year old said, “We will see who will replace him. We have (Mateo) Kovacic, we have (Josip) Brekalo, we have (Milan) Badelj. There is always a solution and we should stop whining about someone who’s not going to be there. We will find a solution and we are going to Wembley to enjoy football.”
