Former FC Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has revealed that his team-mate at the time, Dani Alves, offered him his liver before he underwent surgery.
The 34-year-old footballer had to have a liver transplant last April, which saved his life, but his football was effected and because of it, he was released by the Spanish giants.
Abidal, who now plays for mega-rich AS Monaco, revealed in an interview the kind gesture offered by Alves and he admitted that their friendship is very special.
‘My relationship with Dani goes much further than him taking my old No.22 shirt.
‘When I had to undergo surgery, he offered to donate his liver.
‘Of course, it’s completely out of the question because he is a professional footballer.
‘Our relationship goes much deeper than friendship.’
