Liverpool star wants to be back for Manchester United game

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is aiming to be back from his injury nightmare in time for the game against Manchester United in September.

The England international is set to return to Merseyside in a fortnights time after spending the past few months in America taking part in a special rehabilitation programme.

Sturridge underwent surgery on his hip and has since been in USA recovering and Liverpool officials have been scheduled to return to England at the end of the month, before potentially playing again after the first international break.

Liverpool take on United midway through September, and Sturridge is aiming to be fit in time for that encounter, but he may have to fight for his place.

Striker Competition

Sturridge has seen two new strikers join the club in the shape of Christian Benteke and Danny Ings, both whom have scored goals during the pre-season, including Benteke‘s wonder-goal against Swindon Town over the weekend.

As for Sturridge, he knows his injury problems could cost him a regular first-team spot, after he made just 18 appearances last season before suffering numerous injuries.

Throughout the campaign, the striker picked up thigh injuries, hip injuries and a calf injury, leaving him out for large portions of the campaign.

However, Liverpool are hoping to see him return to first-team action in just over a months time.
