Daniel Sturridge: No regrets about leaving Man City

Daniel Sturridge is glad he left Manchester City because he believes he would still be on the bench. Ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City’s HUGE clash this weekend, the striker believes if he had stayed at the Etihad, he wouldn’t be playing football regularly.

Sturridge believes he would have been stuck on the bench as big-money imports arrived and although he still respects the club he has no regrets about finding football elsewhere. He said:

“I would not have got to where I am today if I had stayed. It was difficult for me at Man City as a young player aged 18 or 19, with all the money they have. Realistically, you look back and they only have Micah Richards from the academy playing for the club’s first team. Everyone else has been signed by Man City, so I feel I made the right decision leaving there.”

Had he stuck around, he would have been competing against the likes of Robinho, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko. Speaking now about his current position, playing for Liverpool he said:

“First and foremost, I feel blessed that I’m at a club where I can push myself to the limit, always listening to my team-mates and especially the manager. This is a time in my life I’ll always remember because of everything that’s gone on in the past.”
