Burnley striker Danny Ings is being watched by Chelsea and Manchester City, ahead of a possible move in the summer.
Liverpool were rumoured to have had the chance to sign Ings in the January transfer window.
But a move failed to materialise, and now the Reds may miss ou. This leaves the door open for their Premier League rivals to pursue their interest.
Ings, 22, is set to be a free agent in the summer, but as he is under the age of 24, Burnley would have a compensation payment.
Spanish side Real Sociedad, managed by ex-Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes, are also thought to be keen.
Ings has seven goals this season for Burnley, and is crucial to any hopes they have of surviving relegation.
