Liverpool are set to table a transfer bid for Burnley centre-forward Danny Ings before Monday’s transfer deadline, according to the Metro.

Brendan Rodgers has identified the 22-year-old as a suitable target, and is to launch a bid before Monday, rather than become embroiled in a transfer scrum for the player in the summer.

Ings’ current deal at Burnley expires in the summer, with the Southampton-born forward attracting interest from both Tottenham Hotspur and Real Sociedad in recent weeks, with speculation set to force Liverpool to act swiftly.

And with Liverpool somewhat struggling attacking wise, Ings could prove to be an ideal signing in the long-run, with both Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert failing to fill the boots left by Luis Suarez.

However, should Liverpool complete the deal for the Burnley man, the Merseyside outfit are planning to loan Ings back to Turf Moor for the remainder of the current Premier League season, as part of the deal to take him to Anfield.

He has netted seven goals in 21 appearances this season, with Sean Dyche unwilling to part ways with his top scorer, given Burnley’s fight against relegation, with the East Lancashire side currently occupying 17th position in the Premier League standings, following automatic promotion from the Championship last season.
