Darren Ferguson knows Posh were lucky

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson admits that his side were lucky to pick up all three points on Saturday after they scraped a 2-1 victory against Oldham Athletic at London Road.

With the visitors in control of the game in the early stages, it was summer signing Britt Assombalonga that gave The Posh a surprise lead with a glorious 25-yard strike. That goal has taken his tally to three in three for the league.

The former-Watford signing was causing problems for Oldham again in the second half and when he was brought down by the away side’s goalkeeper, the referee had no choice but to award the hosts a penalty.

Wantaway striker Lee Tomlin took the ball and smashed it home to make it 2-0 to Ferguson’s men.

Despite a late rally from the visitors, Posh were able to hold on to the win but the manager knows they were lucky.

Ferguson said: “We have to count ourselves lucky to win that game.

“We had so many players who were miles below par and yet we still managed to come out on top.

“I’m delighted to be winning games as that is what this business is all about, but there is a lot of stuff that I am not happy with.

“We have not been anywhere near our best so far this season and we need to work out why that is the case.”
