David Button has said that it was a great day for Brighton as they won the match against Everton.

The Seagulls sneaked past the Toffees as Jurgen Locadia scored the only goal of the match.

Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper David Button has hailed his teammates after their win against Everton in their last match of the year. The Seagulls scraped a win against the Toffees as Jurgen Locadia scored the only goal of the match. Button, who replaced Matt Ryan in the starting lineup as the Australian has left for national team duty in the Asian Cup, made a series of saves to keep the Everton attackers at bay and get his side over the line.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Brighton custodian said, “It was a great day with a clean sheet and three big points – to keep them out was really massive for the boys. Everyone played well, and it was a fantastic result – I’ve known since the start of the season that I would get this opportunity when Maty [Ryan] went away with Australia, and he’s been doing fantastically well. I knew I’d have to carry that on when he left and hopefully I showed that, the challenge for me is to keep it up.”

He added, “I’d known for a couple of days that I’d be starting the game, the manager told us both and gave me a bit of time to prepare which was nice. Maty sent me a few messages before he went off with his country and he messaged me after the game on Saturday, he’s been very supportive, and it’s been great. The feeling in the camp as a whole is good at the moment because we’ve picked up four points from our last two matches against tough opposition, at a time of the year when the matches come thick and fast.”
