Manchester united goalkeeper David de Gea has admitted he is trying to convince Spanish team-mate and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas to join him at Old Trafford.

Fabregas is reportedly available and up for sale at Barca this summer, and after United reportedly failed to land him last season, De Gea is trying to convince Cesc to make the move this time around.

When asked about a possible link-up with Fabregas at club level, De Gea said, “I’m trying to get him to come.”

It is thought that new Barca boss Luis Enrique is ready to negotiate a deal for the midfielder, with Arsenal and Chelsea also reportedly interested in bring the midfielder back to England.

Ex-Gunner Ray Parlour, however, believes that would be a mistake.

‘The problem with Fabregas is where do you put him in the team?’ said Parlour.

‘They have got very similar players to Fabregas – they have Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere – if you bring Fabregas back where do you fit him in?

‘He was great for the club but forwards should be much more of a priority.

‘You look at Manchester City and Liverpool and they have much better forwards.’
