Goalkeeper’s collapsed move to Real Madrid was costly for the Spaniard

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was likely to earn around £54.6million had he moved to Real Madrid over the summer.

It was well documented that the La Liga giants wanted to sign De Gea over the summer after selling Iker Casillas to FC Porto, but due to paperwork issues, the transfer fell through on Transfer Deadline Day, leaving the Spaniard stuck at Old Trafford.

After the deal fell through, the ‘keeper showed his loyalty to United by signing a new long-term deal at the club, but his reported contract at the Bernabeu has since been leaked.

Leaked Documents

Documents that have been revealed show that De Gea could have earned himself a nice £54.6m had he signed the six-year deal being offered by Madrid.

The leaked contract shows that Madrid were prepared to offer the ‘keeper a six-year deal worth just shy of £190k-a-week, but due to the paperwork not being processed in time, the move collapsed.
