Manchester United goalkeeper admits he was surprised striker left the club

Manchester United star David De Gea has admitted he was shocked to find out the club had sold Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican international left Old Trafford on a permanent deal over the summer after spending last season out on loan at La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Hernandez then returned to United only to be told by Louis van Gaal that he has no future at the club. He was then sold to Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Chicharito, as he is nicknamed, is loving life in Germany and has scored eight goals in his last six games, sparking speculation behind why United sold him in the first place as they continue to struggle for goals.

Speaking about his former team-mate, De Gea admitted he was surprised when he heard about the sale of the Mexican striker.

“These are decisions for the coach,” he told an ESPN show.

“But in my team he would always play. He was an undisputed starter before and player of the year at United.

“He can get you 20, 30 goals a season. I would like a lot to play with him again, hopefully it can happen.”

“It is difficult for him, for any player, to play little,” he added.

“They were difficult moments, but everyone trusts in him, knows the level he has.

“He always does something, always scores goals when he gets playing time. He is showing now he is among best goal scorers in the world.”
