Paris Saint-Germain defender, David Luiz, has apologised to Chelsea and their fans for celebrating his equaliser last night.

The Brazilian leapt highest from a corner to bullet home a late goal for the French side, taking the game into extra-time just moments after Gary Cahill thought he netted the winner.

Luiz received a mixed reception from the home fans for most of the game, but after several encounters with Diego Costa, the jury was out and Stamford Bridge then started to boo the centre-back every time he touched the ball.

However, the frizzy-haired star had the last laugh as he powered home a late goal to send the game to extra-time, and despite Eden Hazard’s penalty, it was Luiz’s defensive partner that won the tie with a superb header to make it 2-2 and send PSG through on away goals.

After the game, Luiz apologised for celebrating his goal but admitted that emotions took over.

“It is amazing for everyone, amazing for Paris club, for Paris city. We did a great game, we tried to win the game. I am happy to be in the next round but we have a long way to go to win the Champions League. We have to keep our feet on the floor.

“My cycle finished in Chelsea, PSG gave me a great opportunity to continue my career. I was very happy at Chelsea. I respect everyone.

“Tonight was good for me to score. I said I wouldn’t celebrate but my emotions I couldn’t control. Thank you to Chelsea and sorry I celebrated because I was so emotional.”
