Manchester United manager David Moyes claims his side didn’t need German superstar Mesut Ozil and that is the reason why they didn’t try and sign him in the Summer.

The former-Real Madrid star eventually joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day, but after the move, reports broke out that United were originally interested in the German.

However, ahead of the clash against the two teams, Moyes has claimed that The Red Devils didn’t need Ozil.

The United manager has also revealed that he was very close at signing Aaron Ramsey whilst he was at Everton.

‘Yeah, I was very close to signing Ramsey at Everton,’ said Moyes.

‘I had him in my house and Arsenal beat me to it.

‘As regards Ozil, we weren’t close to buying him but something was mooted (to us). We didn’t need that position at the time. It was put to us and it was just something at the time we didn’t need.

‘We had Shinji Kagawa and Wayne (Rooney) and people of a similar ilk so it wasn’t quite what we required at that time. We were looking at different positions.’
