David Moyes furious with match officials

Manchester United manager David Moyes has launched an attack on matchday officials after his side were denied a clear penalty during their 2-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

With the score at 2-1 to the visitors, Ashley Young was running clear into the penalty area before being clattered into by on-rushing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who also had his foot up on connecting with the winger’s knee.

However, Howard Webb, who was in the middle of controversy last weekend during the Chelsea-Liverpool match, ignored the penalty claim and waved play on, much to the annoyance of Moyes come full-time.

“It’s an incredible decision, in fact probably one of the worst I think I saw,” said United manager Moyes.

Spurs boss Tim Sherwood also agreed with the United boss.

“The goalkeeper comes out, Ashley Young gets the ball before him and he follows through,” the former Everton boss told BBC Sport.

“If you follow through on a player anywhere else on the pitch with your foot high, it would be a sending-off and a red card.

“I find it incredible, but the people who employ the referees are going to have to look at that and see if they get that right.”
