Scot believed he had signed Spaniard for Manchester United
Former-Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed he thought he managed to land Cesc Fabregas during his first summer transfer window.
The Scot endured a miserable spell as United boss, which didn’t even last one season, but he has admitted that it could have been different if he managed to sign the players he initially wanted to.
Moyes left Everton in order to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, and despite being promised money to spend, he failed to attract to top-name players to the club and only managed to bring in Marouane Fellaini.
Speaking about his time at United, Moyes admitted that he held talks with Fabregas, then at FC Barcelona, only to see him join fierce-rivals Chelsea.
Moyes Thought He Had Fabregas
‘We thought we were taking him to Manchester United. We spoke to him at the time but, unfortunately, it didn’t happen,’ Moyes told Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday.
‘Manchester United are always in for the top players, we were in for the top players at the time. They were in for the top players recently and they will be in for them again.’
Moyes has since endured a failed spell in Spain with Real Sociedad.
