Txiki Begiristain has put Citizens in pole position for attacker

Manchester City are believed to be in pole position to sign Wolfsburg’s former Chelsea winger Kevin De Bruyne this summer.

The 23-year-old has been magnificent in the Bundesliga since joining Wolfsburg in January 2014, which has led to a number of top European clubs monitoring his progress.

Txiki Begiristain is said to have given City the edge, after holding talks with the players representatives during the German’s trip to Inter Milan in the Europa League.

De Bruyne has 14 goals and 24 assists this season, helping the club to second in the Bundesliga, but Wolfsburg are adamant they wish to keep the Belgium international.

His spell in Chelsea was less successful, costing ÂŁ18 million, making just nine appearances since 2012. So if there was reason for De Bruyne to not return to England, that is it.

City rivals Manchester United are also reportedly interested, but their biggest competition is likely to be from Paris Saint-German and fellow German side Bayern Munich.
