The goalkeeper has reportedly told Jose Mourinho he will stay at Old Trafford

Man United are set to keep hold of star player David De Gea this summer, according to reports.

The goalkeeper has reportedly told new boss Jose Mourinho that he wants to stay at the club, meaning he will reject a move to Real Madrid.

It seemed certain that the Spaniard would leave the Red Devils last summer when a deal to send him to Madrid was agreed. Everything was put in place but the deal collapsed at the last due to a fax failure.

The La Liga side have renewed their interest in the Spain international this summer and are still eager to land the goalkeeper on a permanent basis, despite Keylor Navas impressing in-between the sticks for the club.

However, they will be handed a huge blow with the news that De Gea wants to stay at Old Trafford.

Release clause in the contract

It seemed as though he would be off to Madrid, as he was believed to be unhappy with life under Louis Van Gaal. However, LVG has of course made way for Jose Mourinho, who has made no secret of his desire to keep the shot-stopper at the club.

After multiple conversations and texts between manager and player – and a lot of praise from the Special One for the 25-year old – it appears that Mourinho has convinced the keeper to stay.

There was also a clause in the Spaniards contract that allowed him to move to Real Madrid this summer if they came in with a bid and he wanted a move.

However, the clause reportedly expires at midnight tonight and with the keeper happy to stay now – and with no signs of an official Madrid bid as of yet – it appears his future is at Old Trafford.
