Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has insisted that the players fully support manager Andre Villas-Boas, despite the Portuguese boss getting a lot of criticisim in the press.

Pressure has been on Boas since the 6-0 defeat away at Manchester City last weekend and several reporters from the press jumped on the back of the Spurs boss and claimed that he was under-fire at the club.

The tension between the manager and the media exploded on Sunday after Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Manchester United as Villas-Boas confronted two reporters in particular from a national newspaper and had a full-blown argument with them in the press conference.

A lot of people have suggested that the former-Chelsea boss has lost the players support and the dressing room, however, Dembele has insisted that the team fully support Boas and have given him their full backing.

“Of course (we are),” he said. “The manager is working hard to give everyone confidence.

“The Man City result was not only embarrassing for the manager, but for us as well. People were laughing at us after that performance.”

As well as Dembele, Sandro gave his support to Villas-Boas.

“Everyone likes him,” the Brazilian said. “We have to play for him and I think everyone is doing that on the pitch.

“Criticism happens to any coach if you do not win games. He knows we are here and we showed him what we are going to do.

“I play for him every game. And for the club.”
