Chelsea legend expects manager to leave the club

Didier Drogba believes Jose Mourinho will leave Chelsea sooner rather than later after hitting the same problem as he did first time around.

Mourinho is known for having two solid seasons at a club, including winning trophies, before stuttering and having a poor season in the third year, which is what’s happening now at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea lie 16th in the Premier League table following seven defeats out of 12 games, and with his job on the line, it’s looking more and more likely that he’ll be leaving the club sooner rather than later.

Mourinho was sacked back in 2007 by Roman Abramovich, and Drogba believes it could be happening all over again eight years later.

Drogba Predicts Departure

In his autobiography, Drogba writes: “I believe things often come in three-year cycles (and) we had arrived at the end of such a cycle.

“By the start of the fourth (season) that Jose had been in charge, I think we had started to reach a point where it was sometimes harder for his message to get through.

“We wanted to hear it, we tried, but somehow we had lost a little bit of what made us special.

“One of his many qualities is that he brings a winning mentality to all the teams he manages.

“Once you know how to do it, you never forget, it stays with you for ever.

“And that is what he does with his players, at whichever club he is at.

“The majority of coaches when they arrive at a new club, they will say, ‘I’ll try to win but it will be difficult.’ Jose says, ‘I’m here to win.’

“That rubs off on his players.”
