Chelsea star Diego Costa has revealed how he came close to joining Liverpool last Summer.
The Spaniard, who joined The Blues this year after an impressive season in La Liga, has admitted in a recent interview that he came close to signing for Liverpool last year after Brendan Rodgers made an offer for him.
Rodgers, who had spent a period of time scouting the Spaniard, was left impressed with the striker’s performances and lodged a formal £21million bid for the 25-year-old, but the striker wasn’t keen on making the move after finally breaking into the Madrid’s first-team.
The year prior to Rodgers’ interest, Costa scored 10 goals in La Liga and he has admitted that interest from Liverpool came in last Summer.
He said: “I was close to leaving, Liverpool are a great team.
“But after fighting so hard and overcoming difficulties to get my place at Atletico, how could I leave?
“I thought it was very important to keep growing at the Colchoneros [Atletico Madrid], and play here for many years.”
Costa has already scored four goals for Chelsea in just three Premier League appearances.
