Diego Costa expects his teammate to stay at Atletico Madrid next season

Antoine Griezmann has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona

Since joining Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad back in 2014, Antoine Griezmann has been a mainstay in the team. He has given numerous impressive performances and has established himself as one of the best strikers in the World.

The 27 year old has been a regular for La Liga giants this season, scoring 29 goals and assisting 13 in all competitions. He also helped his team to win the Europa League final after beating Marseille 3-0 on 17th May.

Despite being contracted with Atletico until 2022, the France International has been heavily linked with a exit from the club. Manchester United were interested him for a long time last season but decided to sign Romelu Lukaku instead last summer.

The French Star has been heavily linked with a move to rivals Barcelona this summer with reports claiming that they are ready to pay his £88 million release clause. They are ready to bolster their squad which already contains Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Philipe Coutinho.

Griezmaan is taking time to decide about his future but his teammate Diego Costa believes the forward can be persuaded to stay at the club.

“He is taking a little time to say what is next for him and I think there is perhaps some doubt on his part,” Costa told a news conference as quoted by Goal.

“What I’d say to him is that you have to be happy and you must feel that way because a happy player will keep getting better. But if you think you must move to be happy, then you will have to leave as players need that comfort and happiness.

“He knows that we love him very much and that he is the figurehead here, a very important player. If he stays with us, that would be brilliant.

“If he leaves, we also must be happy because he’s given us a title this season but, in the end, I think he’ll stay.”
