Chelsea have announced today they had agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid to sell striker Diego Costa.
According to reports, the Diego Costa transfer agreed from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid is for £53m.
The striker will now be traveling from Brazil over to Madrid for his awaited medical ahead of the long-running transfer finally being confirmed.
There will be no payments due to Costa from Chelsea – there had been a issue over a loyalty bonus – with the club having continually fined him after he went AWOL and refused to return back to England for this season.
Costa will sign a deal to 2021 although he cannot play for Atletico until January 2019 – when he will be allowed to register for the club – because of the Fifa transfer ban imposed on the Spanish club but he will be free to train with them to regain his fitness.
The only detail yet to be released is his weekly wage, who’s going to be paying his wages? He’s currently on £150,000-a-week.
No one knows yet if it will be Chelsea subsidising his wages, but, sources claim, once he signs for Madrid, Atletico will be paying him.
