Atletico Madrid extended their lead at the top of La Liga by seven points on Sunday.

Luis Suarez and Joao Felix guided them to a 3-1 comeback victory over Valencia.

Real Madrid and Barcelona had closed the gap by managing wins over Alaves and Elche but Atletico restaged their advantage with a brilliant display.

Speaking after the game, Diego Simeone said, “We only think of Cádiz in our next game and to improve in each training session. We look at what is coming up, how we can improve.

“In the first half our performance cost us, but then we played well in the second half and began to hurt Valencia. The best way to live with this moment is to take it game by game.”

“We don’t get carried away or think too far ahead, we think about getting better,” added the Atletico boss.

Luis Suarez, who turned 34 yesterday moved up to 12 La Liga goals, making the leading goalscorer next to Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri.

“It’s perfect to play alongside a striker like Luis Suarez. He just keeps scoring goals and he is so important for the team,” said Joao Felix.

“We may have fallen behind early but we’re a team that keeps fighting until the end,” Felix added. “We’re doing so well, we just focus on each game and that’s what we need to keep doing. We’re not looking at how many points we have.”
