Director confirms Chelsea in talks over deal for defender

Schalke’s sporting director Christian Heidel has officially confirmed that they are currently in talks to re-sign Baba Rahman on loan from Chelsea

The Ghanian defender spent all last season on loan at Schalke before falling out of favour under Blues boss Antonio Conte during the last pre-season run.

Rahman returned to the club after rupturing a crucial ligament, which saw his loan spell end prematurely.

He’s an ideal fit for Conte’s system, however, Rahman does not appear to be in the Italian’s plans going forward.

Heidel has confirmed that a move for the defender will come down to when the player is expected to return to full fitness.

“We are in talks with the player, his agent and Chelsea. Ultimately, it is about when Baba will be able to play again. No decision has been made yet.”
