Blues sign Stoke City ‘keeper
Chelsea Football Club have announced the signing of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke City.
The Bosnian international has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal after Chelsea agreed an £8million fee with their Premier League rivals.
Jose Mourinho has been in the market for a new ‘keeper since allowing Petr Cech to join Arsenal earlier in the summer, and he made it clear that Begovic was the man he wanted.
Begovic Statement
After arriving at Chelsea, Begovic said: ‘I am very happy to be joining Chelsea FC. After speaking at length to the manager, I feel like I can develop here and be an important part of this team. I am looking forward to meeting up with the team on Wednesday for the pre-season tour.’
The shot-stopper will take the vacant number-1 jersey after Thibaut Courtois chose to remain at number-13.
However, it’s expected that Courtois will still be the club’s regular goalkeeper, with Begovic being back-up at Stamford Bridge.
