Frenchman looking forward to kick-starting his injury struck career

Marseille have announced the signing of free agent midfielder Abou Diaby after he was released by Arsenal.

The Frenchman was told by Arsene Wenger that he wouldn’t be offered a new contract at the Emirates Stadium after failing to prove his fitness from March until the summer.

After spending 10-years in North London, Diaby has finally left the club where he struggled to make an impact due to serious injury problems that started when he broke his leg.

The 29-year-old snubbed a move to West Bromwich Albion in the process of signing for Marseille and he has now revealed how excited he is to restart his career in his homeland.

Diaby Ready for Challenge

Diaby said: “We can call this a new start in my career.

“I haven’t played in two years, and featured in very few matches over the past four years, but I’m here to get back to my best level. I totally understand (people’s) skepticism.”

‘Big Coup’

Guy Roux, Diaby’s former manager at Auxerre, added: “This could be the biggest coup for Marseille for a long time and it’s also a great gift to the French league.

“Diaby is a fabulous player, well-disciplined and pleasant by nature. He has the kind of talent which has been sadly lacking from French football in recent times.”
