The midfielder swaps the Premier League for Ligue 1

Defensive midfielder Benjamin Stambouli has left Tottenham Hotspur to join Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £6 million.

The Frenchman returns to his home country, signing a five-year contract at the Ligue 1 Champions. He has now linked up with his new teammates on their pre-season tour of Canada and the United States of America.

Stambouli leaves White Hart Lane after just one season with Spurs; he joined the North London club from Montpellier for an undisclosed fee back in 2014.

‘I am delighted’

When speaking to PSG’s official club website, Stambouli said: “I am delighted and very proud to become a member of the Paris Saint-Germain family.”

He also added: “I wasn’t necessarily planning to leave the Premier League after one year but when a club with the dimension of Paris Saint-Germain calls you, it makes your choice a lot easier!”

“That’s the moment when you can experience the power of attraction surrounding this club,” Stambouli acknowledged.

“I will now focus on my preparation. It will be important to take advantage of the friendly games that we still have to play in the US to find my marks on the pitch.”

PSG boss Laurent Blanc claims he is happy with his capture, despite Tottenham making £1.3 million profit on the central midfielder.

The 24-year old made 27 appearances in all competitions for Spurs during the last campaign. He scored his only goal for the club in the 1-0 home victory over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League group stages.
