The defender joins from recently relegated QPR

Southampton have confirmed that they have completed the signing of centre-back Steven Caulker on a season-long loan from Queens Park Rangers.

The England international will get a another chance to prove his worth in the Premier League, after having successful spells at Tottenham Hotspur and then a loan deal at Swansea City.

However, it hasn’t always been easy, Caulker has twice been relegated from England’s top flight with both Cardiff City and most recently QPR.

‘This club is an ambitious one’

When talking about his move to the south coast, the 23-year old said: “I’m very pleased and very excited, this club has done fantastically well, especially over the last two years. To now join this club and to be a part of it for this year is something I’m proud of.”

He also added: “As soon as I got the phone call to say a fee was agreed with Southampton, I was delighted to get the opportunity to come and play under a great manager.”

“This club is an ambitious one, so to be part of this is a great opportunity; it’s a chance for me to prove myself. I’m very excited for the season ahead,” expressed Caulker.

It remains to be seen whether or not the loan deal could be turned into a permanent one at the end of the 2015/16 campaign. Rumours of an ÂŁ8 million switch are yet to be confirmed by either club.
