Arsenal goalkeeper to spend season in Italy

Arsenal Football Club have announced that Wojciech Szczesny will spend the season out on-loan with Italian side AS Roma.

The Polish international’s future at the Emirates Stadium was thrown into question after the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea earlier in the summer, but Arsene Wenger is adamant that Szczesny does have a long-term future in North London.

Szczesny’s Struggles

Szczesny was dropped halfway through last season after a disastrous performance against Southampton on New Years Day, and things were made worse when the ‘keeper was spotted smoking in the showers after the game.

Wenger had the decision to lose one of Szczesny or David Ospina to make way for Cech, and the Frenchman decided to keep the Colombian at the club and send Szczesny on a valuable loan experience.

The 25-year-old shared the Premier League Golden Glove during the 2013/2014 campaign, but had a season to forget last year on and off the field.

The loan deal doesn’t have an option to make it permanent this time next year proving that Wenger wants Szczesny at Arsenal in the future.
