Winger joins Potters after club broke transfer record

Stoke City Football Club have announced the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri from Serie A side Inter Milan after agreeing to pay £12million, a club record fee.

The Potters were close to signing the winger earlier in the summer, but for some reason the deal collapsed, despite the transfer fee being agreed.

However, after being spotted at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday, Shaqiri passed his medical and agreed personal terms with the Premier League club yesterday.

Shaqiri has previously been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton, but he has chosen Stoke and has spoken to the club’s official website after being announced their record signing.

Shaqiri Statement

“I am very happy, and incredibly excited that this transfer to Stoke City has finally happened,” he revealed.

“Over the past three days I have met great people at the club and witnessed the wonderful atmosphere at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday. That experience was overwhelming.

“My special thanks go to the manager, Mark Hughes, Chief Executive Tony Scholes and Mark Cartwright for their work in helping to make this deal happen over the past few months.

“I sincerely appreciate it so much, and will give my utmost to pay them and the supporters back on the pitch over the coming months and years.

“I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and make my debut for the Club. It feels great to finally be a Potter!”
