Don’t write off United just yet, says Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes it would be stupid to rule out Manchester United of the title race already, but he has admitted that a gap is already appearing between his team and David Moyes’ men.

A couple of shock results at Old Trafford have really soiled the mood around Manchester, for the red-half anyway, as the Premier League champions fell to West Bromwich Albion before the International break and were then held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at the weekend.

The slow start from United leaves them eighth in the league and already eight points behind league leaders Arsenal, but their manager believes that they cannot be ruled out of the title race just yet.

‘It is too early. They are not out of the title race,’ Wenger said.

‘We are only two points in front of all the others.

‘Are Man United out of the title race? No, but of course 10 points starts to be a little gap.’

Wenger continued: ‘If you have the choice, you want to be in the race at the top, but you cannot rule Man United out today.

‘They have big players, big experience and they are a big club.

‘It (points advantage) is three games basically, that is very quick in our league.’
