Juventus winger Douglas Costa has been given a four match suspension for spitting at Sassuolo’s Federico De Francesco. The Brazilian won’t be able to participate in the next four games in the Serie-A.
The incident happened in the last match where Juventus defeated Sassuolo 2-1 with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a brace in that match to open his Juventus account. Costa was involved in a number of small events in that match as he was also seen elbowing and headbutting the player before spitting in his face.
The referee didn’t notice the incidents but it caught the attention of VAR and only After consulting with it the referee decided to send the player off. Costa later apologized for his on field behaviour.
Costa’s action resulted in angry reactions from his coach who had a go at the player. Max Allegri said, “He’s apologised, he’ll pay with a four-match ban and he’ll show with fair play on the pitch that this was an isolated incident.”
Juventus will have to play the next four matches including the much important Napoli match without the service of Costa who has been pretty good since joining the club.
