Eddie Howe laments his side’s poor performances in their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The intensity was there as the Cherries looked positive and confident on the ball and dominated the proceedings for a large part of the match. Bernardo Silva’s opener did provide the Premier League leaders with an advantage but the Cherries didn’t lose hope as they maintained the pressure.

Callum Wilson restored parity just before the interval and Howe’s side looked to be the most dangerous side among the two. But City pressed hard in the second half and two goals from Raheem Sterling and Illkay Gundogan killed Bournemouth’s hopes as Pep Guardiola’s team got away with three valuable points.

Howe said, “We had moments and unfortunately for us the three goals we conceded were out of context with the game and were scrappy. They weren’t goals where they cut through us with beautiful football and you kick yourself for that.

“I think the team have to do better and I think the second goal is a key moment in the game. The third one is as well because at 2-1 we are still very much in the game.”
