Former Brazilian defender Edmilson believes Neymar’s decision to make a move to Paris Saint Germain was not right.
PSG snapped up the Brazilian international from Barcelona last year when they paid a jaw dropping £222m to acquire his service. It took very little time for Neymar to made an instant impact and since then the forward has added 41 goals to his tally.
Despite established his superiority in France the Brazil captain has often been the subject of transfer speculation linking him to a number of clubs. Reports claiming a sensational return to Barcelona hovering around for a while but the player seems to be pretty happy at the French club.
Edmilson who plied his trade for the Catalan giants said, “Neymar’s career is a very personal theme. He’s decided to go to PSG and leave Barcelona.
“In my opinion, that was a mistake, because a World Cup was coming up and, if he wanted to be number one [the best player in the world], being at Barca he could achieve it faster than being at PSG, with all due respect to them.
“And he’s having a hard time because, perhaps in Ligue 1, PSG are two or three steps ahead of the other teams.
“It’s not that their opponents are bad, the thing is that PSG have an international squad, and for an international squad to compete with clubs, that’s a complicated matter.
“I hope he can keep mentally well, be enthusiastic, because this is important for a player, no matter his talent.”
