Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he sees glimpses of Robert Pires in youngster Thomas Eisfeld after the German bagged his first goal for the first-team on Wednesday night.

During a thrilling Capital One Cup tie, Eisfeld gave The Gunners the lead at The Hawthorns against West Bromwich Albion and then eventually went on to win the game 4-3 on penalties.

Despite only bagging one for the first-team, the German scored nine goals for the U-21s last season and has been predicted a big future in the midfielder at the Emirates Stadium.

More praise has been heaped upon him after his manager revealed that he sees glimpses of club-legend Pires, in his style.

“He is a Pires type,” the manager told Arsenal Player. “He appears to be in the box without being noisy and appearing suddenly. When he is there, he finishes well.

“He has that kind of quality that some midfielders have – not many. They have the timing to get in dangerous situations. When they have those dangerous situations, they are like snakes. They bite you to death because they don’t miss their first touch.

“He’s cool enough in front of goal and he finishes well.”
